Beautiful and tons to experience

I have been hiking and kayaking the sipsey wilderness for years. Borden creek was one of the best short hiking or kayaking trips in bankhead a few years ago until the inconsiderate horseback riders took over the trailhead and added the half mile section of dirt road. This has not only ruined one of the best short (2-3 hour) kayaking trips in the state but has also added a half mile of useless climb to the hike. For someone who is being carried up the hill by a horse this may not be a problem but for a dad that is trying to take his children on a hiking/camping trip it is a grueling, gradual, and boring climb (and I'm not a couch potato). Most kayaking trips in bankhead are all day events which I'd rather do, but for most people who are like me and work a full time job/raising children it is hard to commit to a whole day. The kayak put in at the bridge is now inaccessible. The sad part is, all they would have to do to accommodate everyone would be to open the gate so that everyone who wants to hike or kayak could use the old trailhead/ kayak put in and put up a sign that says "NO TRAILERS BEYOND THIS POINT" at the new one. I am just sad that my children no longer get to enjoy one of the best day hiking/kayaking trips in the state because of them getting burned out due to the long, boring, un-rewarding climb at the end. I wish someone would have taken the people who are actually using the trailhead into consideration. Now that the horseback riders got what they want, it seems like I haven't seen them out there as much. I am urging the forest service to re open the gate and put up a sign for trailers because I know there are many others like me who are too busy to argue over this so they haven't voiced their opinions yet.

This is a main trailhead for the Sipsey Wilderness. It's probably a little over 1/4mi downhill to the old trailhead. From the bottom of the hill bt the bridge there are 4 official trails and 1 well used unofficial trail. A topographic map and compass are highly recommended. Cell service out there is spotty on top of the ridges and nonexistent below the ridges.

Nice gravel road leads to trailhead. Plenty of parking. Information board provides all you need to know. An excellent place to begin your wilderness adventure. FYI cell service is real iffy out here.
